Thanksgiving Day #2

Our second Thanksgiving celebration this year took place on Thursday at my parents house. As we have in years past, we headed to the 'grove Wednesday evening. As we haven't done in years passed, we dropped off G3, raided the fridge, and headed to Lewisburg for a night out with Ray and Nancy. (I know that makes us sound like ungrateful little bastards, but really, my mom was only too happy to feed us and the three of them--Mom, Dad, and Kellie--practically fought over G3. For which we're very grateful:) We had a great time with Ray and Nance and were out until the late night hour of 12:30!!!

Anyhow, Thanksgiving with my family is much less formal...a little more intimate and laid back. Gabe and my mom took care of the food which included a spiral ham (yep, no turkey this year!), sweet potatoes with marshmallows, stuffing, Gabe's signature goat cheese and walnut salad, and a broccoli cheese casserole that sadly did not taste as good as it looked. Dessert was a sinful creation from my dad--something involved ice cream cookies and Butterfingers formed into a cake....which was enough to put us all into comas afterwards.

Well, almost all of us. Little G3 had gone napless (word of advice: "rescuing" G3 when he is crying himself to sleep is a surefire way to guarantee that he will NOT nap again, and he will NOT be happy later in the day. But I digress...) Anyhow he wasn't in the best of moods but seemed to enjoy the ham and of course Grandad's dessert. After dinner we went to the Bickharts for a visit, where he toddled around like a drunk sailor with a crazed look in his eye. We stayed long enough for a drink and for my mom, Kellie, Heather Bickhart and I to gush about "Twilight" and the others to roll their eyes repeatedly, and then it was time to head home. G3 passed out before we hit the Sheetz, which is less than a mile from the Bickharts.

One last note of Thanksgiving...as is usual at my parents house, animals are included in the holidays and everyday happenings like, you know, meals. This is Fatty. His name used to be Gotti but since he's ballooned to 19# for unknown reasons, we call him Fatty. He is an abomination for sure...he can no longer jump over the many gates used to contain dogs and takes great pleasure in knocking G3's alphabet letters off the fridge (since that's about all the physical activity he can muster.) He's really like a little toddler himself, and since he's only 5# smaller than G3, its not a far stretch.

Anyhow, Gotti (I mean, Fatty) enjoyed Thanksgiving too...and we are all thankful for him. Even cat-hating Gabe, who says he wants to bring Fatty home so that he can eliminate our cat simply by sitting on her.

Happy Thanksgiving!
