So our annual Dunwoody trip has come and gone--it always seems to go by too fast! I have gone to Dunwoody just about every summer of my life, including last year with a 6-day old baby (though just for an afternoon.) It is honestly my favorite place in the whole world. The woods, the history of the place, the nostalgic effect, plus the social aspect of a lot of my favorite people in one place, a chance to spend time with my family, catch up with friends, be outside, eat, drink--its always a good time.
This year was G3's first "real" Dunwoody weekend. Last year we drove up for the Saturday afternoon picnic with a little newborn...it was worth the effort and the drive on the "bumpy road" with stitches in unmentionable places. This year was a lot of fun...taking him up to Mud Lake, which is my specific most favorite place ever, taking him to the pond, going for walks on Dunwoody Road, eating in the farmhouse, watching him play on the same porch I've played on my whole life. Pretty cool.
This year was a little mellower than others (Gabe was disapointed in the "nightlife" he said) but considering that two people went home sick and most of us "kids" have our own (young) kids, it was bound to be a quieter year. The first night up with "the guys" was pleasant as always, with our traditional wine on the porch in the afternoon, complete with good conversation. The arrival of the masses (and dogs) on Friday was great, as was the picnic on Saturday which was attended by some 30 odd people, including the Charles' son Spike, his wife Lupita, and their absolutely gorgeous (and charming) children, Jimmy and Sarah--neither of whom I'd ever met. Sunday morning met us with rain, and even though it cleared up, everyone headed home early. As usual, I was struck with sadness upon driving back down the "bumpy road"...it always seems to go by much, much too fast.
