We never made it to Lady Liberty. Let's just say that despite a set of printed out Google directions, a GPS (that may or may not have been faulty and may or may not have been subject to user error), my lack of navigation skills and Gabe's misjudgement that "I can get there without directions, watch me"--let's just say that despite all that, we did not end up where we wanted to go. After much stress and confusion, we decided not to waste anymore of the day and drive right into the city, skipping the touristy Liberty Island and just doing the Times Square thing. Its safe to say we were both a bit frazzled by the time we found somewhere to park, although G3 (the mature one) was hanging in there just fine.
Anyhow, we had a nice time walking around the Times Square and 5th Avenue area. This was G3's very first time in NYC (or any big city since his Philly debut at age 5 weeks) and he loved it. It was both overwhelming and exciting for him. We also, as I mentioned, had a gorgeous fall day of 70 degree temps and blue skies (once in awhile my weather curse lets up...)
Highlights of the day included: seeing a live Elmo on the street, the M&M store, Gabe's purchase of a small taxi and fire truck for his little car-loving boy, running around Bryant Park, a Gene Simmons citing, and the purchase of a very good cheese and hard salami appetizer that served us well on the way home. you saw Gene Simmons? I lived there for 2 years and never saw more than the red headed kid in the short lived series "the class"??? super jealous!!!
